Saddle Fit ProblemsGreg Roskies became interested in saddle fitting a number of years ago due to his personal experience as an Endurance and Competitive Trail rider. When he would visit his wife at work, at the Dental Office, he would see them working with dental impressions. It seemed like the perfect technology for determining saddle fit but the idea of putting a moldable putty directly between a horse and saddle didn't seem possible. After two pain-staking years and many prototypes, he finally arrived at a solution. It's funny how after you work through a problem the answer seems so simple. I became interested when I too was on the eternal 'perfect saddle fit hunt'. I had a horse that I brought home from the race track, and he had run for two years and was sound! I began conditioning him for endurance, and soon realized his saddle did not fit him properly. A friend that I ride with had a Port Lewis Impression Pad, and with the help of that we found a tree that fit him better. I also saw with the pad that I was a very right-sided rider. I tried 5-6 different saddles and they all showed different impressions except for one thing...where my right leg was there was more pressure! on every saddle! Well, I had a new saddle made on a Ralide #1587 tree. Then I began to work on my own riding and becoming more balanced. Paton Rouge,(my gelding) was going very well, and then started to regress again. He seemed to be 'off' every once in a while, and yet my vet could not pinpoint anything. I knew it was higher up than his legs, no endurance rider can spend a lot of time with their equine partner and not know him. I had another fitting done with the Port Lewis Pad, and as a result of intense training, Paton Rouges' muscles had developed so much that there was pressure points on his withers. We built a correction pad that took this pressure off the withers and have not looked back since! This horse did 75 miles in 2 days at the Fort Howes Endurance Ride, took a Top Ten in the 50 mile ride,(it was only his second 50 miler, his first was 3 weeks previous)and 2 months later won the UAE Stakes Race in Canada, a 5 1/2 furlong race at the Rocky Mountain Turf Club in Lethbridge, Alberta We are extremely proud to announce, THE PORT LEWIS SADDLE FIT SYSTEM, patent pending. The World's first comprehensive system that allows you to test the fit of a saddle and customize an appropriate saddle pad. Let your horse give you the best performance he can!
